Home, A Place For Your Heart
Alexander Stoddard is one of my favorite authors. In her books she shares generously her professional secrets as an interior designer as well as her personal experiences. She says, “Our true home is inside each of us, and it is your love of life that transforms your house into your home.”
The first of her books that I read was, “Creating a Beautiful Home”, where she lovingly and patiently goes through and focuses on the various rooms throughout one’s home giving her thoughts, ideas and visions of what each room can be. She takes into consideration the family and what will be the use of the room and how to reflect the personality of the family members. She goes on to say, “We draw our strength from home by contemplating what is most important to us.”
She talks about the “nesting instinct”, that is “among the strongest urges of mankind.” She talks about “falling in love” with your home and organically your home takes on the personality of the people who live there.
“We live in houses, and when they transcend into homes, they envelop our personality. Whatever is right and good about our lives, whatever is authentic and beautiful, will be reflected in the atmosphere as well as in the details that mirror our souls in meaningful, tangible, physical ways.”
No matter where we live. In a temporary place or the finest of homes, it’s still the same. They say, “Home is where the heart is.” I believe that. So, wherever we reside, Alexandra explains,
“To make, while we can, our home a sacred place seems to me the greatest challenge and opportunity of a lifetime.”
Blessings to each of you as you make your home, A Place For Your Heart.
