Our True Nature – To Play And Be In Joy!
The above quote is by a good friend of mine whom I met on facebook. Funny how you can connect with people you have never met face to face, but you somehow are drawn to in a special way. One day she just commented on a post and her words just made so much sense to me.
“It just goes to show you that the true nature of all living things is to play and be in joy.” by Kim Lemen
This quote sure was needed this week! As happens with each and every one of us, sooner or later, you will probably have a challenging week no matter how positive you are. This week was one of numerous minor irritations that when added together became almost overwhelming. And they weren’t of the kind that you could really do much about which made them even worse, especially for me…Type A…do it yourselfer!!
Things that happen in your life that are out of your control seem to eat away at you unless you can step back, take a deep breath and acknowledge that this is nothing that demands your time and attention, but does require that you chill until the dust settles. The issues that I found myself battling with this week were of the technological kind and negotiations between others of the business type. It seemed that one step forward brought two steps backwards. Too much time, energy and perseverence took their toll and left me feeling exhausted and spent.
When things like this happen, I tend to bottle it all up, tuck it deep inside and allow myself to fester. But I am learning that in doing so, it only causes it to come out in less desireable ways; such as anxiety and illness.
It’s important when you come across those days, weeks or even months that send you whirling down the spiral chasm that you take the time to acknowledge and honor your feelings. If you are angry, say so. Be kind of course, but it’s important to be true to yourself and to others by not saying everything is ok when it isn’t. We were given our emotions to explore and enjoy and experience. It’s part of being human and who we really are. So, enjoy the contrast that you see, hear and feel. Stand up for yourself if you see the need to do so. Say what is bothering you and declare whether you want to be a part of it or not. Verbalize your boundaries and what you want to see happen and what you can commit to and what you can’t.
I’m learning as I go, as are you. This week, I learned the following:
- When you feel that you are being taken advantage of, you acknowledge and hear what the other is saying and asking for, and then assess what you can do to make that happen, if anything. If not, just say so with something like, “I can do this part, but cannot commit to all of it.” OR “Ya know, normally, I would be all up for that, but I just can’t right now.”
- Not to get too emotionally involved in a business transaction and to observe rather than take anything personally and make decisions from that perspective
- To have the strength and wisdom to know what I have control over and what I don’t, and to let go of things that are uncontrollable
- If I wait long enough, most situations and issues usually work themselves out without my interference
I hope this has been of some help if you were having one of those weeks too. It’s Monday morning. The start of a new week. It’s all fresh and new with endless possibilities! I will take back my joy and look forward to a fabulous week!! As the above quote says, our true nature is to play and be in joy! And that means in business as well as in relationships, families and all of life!
Ohhh…almost forgot…and as always, I will soak in my favorite hot bath of epsom salts and essential oils to release any toxins from my previous week. Listen to some relaxing music or meditation and prepare myself to receive the good stuff that life has to offer!
