Puppy Scents, The Kids’ Guide to Puppy Care

Puppy Scents is not your usual training manual. Roc Weiler, a Rottweiler mix puppy, boasts a love for treats that goes unmatched. Written from the pup’s point of view, Roc teaches kids the basics of puppy care and how to create an unbreakable friendship that will last a lifetime.

Roc helps children relate to their puppies and understand how to lovingly and patiently train them. In addition to providing training assistance, Roc also encourages positive behavior in kids as each chapter has a lesson not only for Roc, but correlating life lessons for children as well. Seeing that Roc can successfully learn to overcome obstacles shows children that they can too!

Yes, Please!  My Kids Need Puppy Scents!

A note from Roc:

“I wanted to write my story so kids could understand their new puppy and why puppies do what they do. It can be tough for the family and scary for a pup if the family doesn’t understand what their puppy is going through while adapting to his new home.

So, with the help of my Dad, Don Kaleta, I wrote the book, Puppy Scents! The kids learn how to help out with training, feeding and other important puppy stuff.

Here’s me and my new sister Miley getting acquainted on my adoption day as we just got home from the long drive from Virginia.  Mom & Dad thought we should meet through the glass so I wouldn’t be tempted to chase and scare her making it more difficult to start off on the right paw.  I guess that was a good idea. But I still chase them almost everyday since then! It’s part of how I show my love for them (hee, hee)

I didn’t know it yet, but there were two other new sisters to meet. I was hoping they were dogs like me, but no. I was a little disappointed, but once I found out I would have three cats to chase, it was like getting a treat from the jar all over again, or a bright shiny red ball! This was going to be great! I thought to myself, “I’m going to love it here!”  This is Maggie Moo trying to stay away from me.

This is Katie Lynn.  She tries to keep a low profile and out of sight. But she’s not as sweet as she pretends to be!

Meet Punkin. She showed up one day as a stray and of course we took one look at her and knew she belonged with us. She’s our indoor/outdoor kitty who is trained to come in when called. She has the best of both worlds.

Don Kaleta, author of Puppy Scents

Don is a regular guy who loves kids, animals and helping people.  Due to his inability to be nothing other than a kid in a grownup body, Puppy Scents, The Kids’ Guide to Puppy Care was born.  His out-of-the-ordinary sense of humor and his quirky way of looking at life is evident in the writing of this book.  Don is passionate about lessons learned in relationships between kids and pups. Roc’s story is filled with

life lessons for every child.

Don lives in Central Ohio with his wife Mindy and shares their home with their three cats, Katie, Maggie & Miley, Roc and Golden Retriever Chloe.

Helen Habel, illustrator of Puppy Scents

As a child, Helen was always sketching every spare minute she had and knew someday that she would illustrate children’s books.  Now with the help of Don Kaleta’s imagination and her artistic abilities, her childhood dream has come true.

Helen also enjoys relaxing with oil paints and has been studying under the guidance of renowned artist and instructor Robert Warren in Canal Winchester, Ohio. It was here that she was inspired to always strive to capture the essence of that which she is painting. Helen works from her home studio where she resides in Hebron, OH.

Simple Faith and Trust

I don't know about you, but when God strips away things I think I have control over, more times than not He places me in a season of isolation. He does this to create a place of solitude where I can easily hear His voice without the distractions of others and the things of life. If you're in a season like this, settle in, enjoy and He will guide you into simple faith, trust and a right relationship with Him and His will for you.
