God created the universe, the sun, moon & stars, mankind, animals;
our world and everything in it.
God created mankind in His own image so we could be a reflection or “imager” of God’s goodness throughout the world.
He alone is the Creator of all things. He did it because He wanted a close relationship with mankind and all that He created in a beautiful garden home called Eden where He visited daily with the man, woman, animals and all that He created.
But our parents, previously being warned by God not to touch a specific tree in the garden, lest they die; listened to a serpent sowing seeds of doubt about God’s word by presenting two lies.
- “You will not surely die”
- “God did not mean what He said”
They believed the serpent and disobeyed God by eating of the fruit of that very tree. Immediately, things changed. They noticed they were no longer filled with love, joy or peace and were afraid to face God.
Something was different.
They sensed an overwhelming darkness and were filled with fear and shame;
Noticing their nakedness, they felt cold and alone.
Adam and Eve willingly believed the lies of the tempter and caused them to doubt God’s word.
God calls this SIN. Sin separates us from the life giving attributes that come only from a Sovereign Almighty God.
But God had a plan to redeem his children.
The price for sin must be paid.
God said the result of sin is death;
His children were in need of a Savior.
Jesus, Himself, would pay the price of death
for Adam and Eve,
the entire world and future generations.
That includes you and me.
Only God could be our substitute to save us.
No angel, no human, no animal, only HE could do it.
This is the simple Gospel:
Jesus came to earth as a helpless baby;
lived among us, died in our place and rose
from the dead three days later just as He said He would.
Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life,
no one comes to the Father, except through Me.”
John 14:6 (CSB)
Why would Jesus do that for us?
Because He loves us with an “everlasting love”. Our relationship with Him, walking and talking face to face as in Eden, is important to Him.
Jesus said, “For God loved the world so much that He gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (GNT)
What must one do to be saved and accept this gift from God?
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).
It is by grace we are saved through faith.
There is nothing we can do to earn it; though many try through good works.
Good works come as a result of Jesus, His unfailing love for us and the Holy Spirit living in us to change us back into the “imager of God” as He intended in the beginning.
Jesus is the answer; HE paid the price.
He is our refuge and strength. It is in His arms we can rest.
His message to us, in this chaotic and frightening world is this:
“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 (CSB)
You don’t have to fight your battles alone.
Jesus invites us to stop striving and working so hard, give it all to Him and enter His rest.
Lay it all down and let Him heal your family, your home, your relationships, your career and your finances.
He doesn’t promise there will be no challenges, but He DOES promise that no matter what our circumstances, He will be there, right along with us, fulfilling His purpose in our lives.
God is saying,
“I never asked you to do this alone.
Psalms 23 says it beautifully:
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have what I need.
He lets me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside quiet waters.
He renews my life;
He leads me along the right paths
for His name’s sake.
Even when I go through the darkest valley,
I fear no danger,
for You are with me;
Your rod and your staff—they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live. (CSB)
God’s Word, the Bible, gives you the entire story, how it all began, how it will end and everything in between!
God’s invitation to you: “Come to Me, and I will give you REST.”
